The molecular structures of compounds 3 and 5 were optimized at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) theory level. For the ground state geometry, ten excitations, five without spin flip and five to triplet excited states, respectively, were computed. Such quenching mechanisms are further believed to be thermally activated, and consequently, at cooler temperatures of about 77 K, where energy loss due to quenching is not an issue, quantum efficiency is about 100%.
